Stop Putting Off Doing What You Are Afraid To Do (When You Know It Will Help You!)

Today I did the thing that I have been putting off for months.

I had been wanting to go live on Instagram to be more visible online. I kept telling myself I was going to go live weekly on a certain day, and when that day showed up I would find reasons not to do it.

I told myself I would just show up when I felt inspired, and guess what? That inspiration did not come.

I told myself, just do it! You've done it before! And I still didn't do it.

I had a block around showing up live. 

Even thought I know it will be great to connect more with my community. Even though I know it's way less scary than showing up in front of a room full of people. Even though I've done it before!

This morning I got so sick of myself procrastinating on showing up live that I decided today was going to be the day. 

Here's how I did it:

  • I got ready this morning! I did my hair and makeup, I got dressed in real clothes, and I put on earrings so I would feel more confident in myself.

  • I visualized how I wanted it would go. I got a clear picture in my mind of what it would be like to go live. I saw what it looked like, what it felt like, what it sounded like. 

  • I took deep breaths and got into my body to regulate my nervous system.

  • I did the Swish technique to change the habit of procrastinating and not going live, to seeing myself as someone who shows up live with confidence and knows what to say. (This amazing NLP technique is one of the tools I use with my clients to change unwanted habits or behaviors and shift the way they see themselves).

  • I wrote a few notes to outline what I wanted to say in case I got lost.

 And I showed up and did the live!

I talked about what Life Coaching is, my approach to coaching, and why I do what I do.

We think that we need to have all the confidence to do the thing we are scared of, but the reality is the confidence builds by you just doing the thing you are afraid of doing!

And it helps to have some tools to make the process a little easier!
